Air Jordan 5(1989-1990): The inspiration of design comes from the military airplane called MUSTANG fighter in World War II. It is regarded as the most beautiful A.J.shoes in the early period of A.J.shoes.
Its tongue & buckle are reflective, and A.J.5 is the first Air Jordan shoes that uses semi-pellucid bradyseism in outsole, which strengthen its stability & soundnessˇŁThe technology content is greatly improved.
The outstanding feature of Air Jordan 5 is that it has the number ofˇ±23ˇ±on the counter. So this style of A.J.sold quite well at that time.
The original Air Jordan V was released in February of 1990. Again, this Air Jordan designed by TiNiker Hatfield, and like his other designs, this was again truly revolutionary. Some elements were the same from the Air Jordan IV, but the V's most distinctive feature is arguably its reflective tongue. There was also another new innovation: clear rubber soles, which may or may not have been a good move on Hatfield's part. The soles gave the shoe a whole new and unique look, but it quickly turned yellow in reaction to water. Collectors' responses to this was storing the shoes in a cool, dry place with a desiccant at the soles, most commonly silica packs. The Jordan V also came with lacelocks, making strapping on easy.
Hatfield is rumored to have drawn inspiration for the Air Jordan V from the World War II Mustang fighter plane; easily seen in the shark teeth shapes on the midsole. The Air Jordan V was retroed in 2000 to great demand, including a new colorway featuring Michael Jordan's high school (Laney High) colors. It is also schedules for several 2006 re-retros.
Phil Jackson replaced Doug Collins as head coach of the Bulls in the 1989-90 season. This year was the best record that the Bulls since Jordan joined the team as well as a franchise best record at 55-27. Jordan also hit his personal best when he hit 69 points again Cleveland. Jordan also hit 92 three-pointers compared to only 68 in all of the prior seasons combined! Jordan again took home the scoring title, All-Star, First Team, and All-Defense.
The Air Jordan 5 featured a unique style cooked up by TiNiker Hatfield. The Air Jordan 5 was inspired by the WW2 Mustang fighter plane. The most obvious element of the inspiration is the shark teeth shapes on the midsole of the shoe. The Air Jordan 5 also was the first Jordan shoe to have a clear sole. This not only added a nice look to the Air Jordan 5, but provided far better traction. The Air Jordan 5 also featured an iridescent reflective tongue and lacelocks.
Though the Air Jordan 5 would sell just fine on its own, the fact that the shoes had clear rubber soles helped convince many Jordan collectors to buy a retro pair. The Air Jordan 5 soles would turn yellow over time and almost amber. The Jordan 5 is not alone with the yellow sole blues - the Jordan 6, Jordan 11, and Jordan 16 all had major parts of the soles made of clear rubber. The Air Jordan 5 was retroed in late 1999 in White/Black-Fire Red and Black/Black-met silver and once again there was a great demand for them. Retro+ models were also produced of the Air Jordan 5. One of them featured Michaels high school colors (Laney High School). The Air Jordan 5 is set to retro again in 2006. Keep your eyes open for these! |
